“The magic interface between abstraction and representation”
Where to start with T M McGrath? The tenth of eleven children, he was brought up in the post-war North West. An art lover from childhood, Tom became an art teacher for 30 years in his native Manchester, whilst selling hundreds of his trade mark small watercolours of Northern Scenes. After leaving teaching he decided to paint for his own pleasure for the next 20 years. His first professional year as an artist (2016-17) saw him shortlisted for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2017, for the beautiful oil piece, ‘Winter in a Northern Town’, a stunning accolade.
